About Abracadabra
Steven Michael Lesse, the owner and entrepreneur of Abracadabra, began making jewelry in the tenth grade. He then worked towards his Bachelor of Fine Arts at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.

In 1973 Steven opened his first workshop in Southfield, Michigan. He called his workshop Abracadabra Jewelry ("Abracadabra" means "to create as I speak" in Hebrew). During this time, Steven also taught adult education classes in jewelry fabrication in Royal Oak.

In 1974 Steven moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan and hired his first employee. His new store at 302 E. Liberty was large enough to accommodate  more than jewelry and gems!

A New Name and A New Focus
After several years in Ann Arbor, Steven decided to concentrate on custom jewelry design. The store made a move within Ann Arbor to 205 E. Liberty, where it remains today.

Steven now had several employees working for him and with their help he was able to delve deeper into his studies with the GIA (Gemological Institute of America). He also spent some time traveling across the United States to mine his own stones!

As Abracadabra Jewelry/ Gem Gallery became known for its wonderful collection of gemstones, gem dealers from across the country and around the world came to the store. We now have an expansive selection of beryl's (including aquamarines and emeralds), corundum's (rubies and sapphires), diamonds, including conflict-free, Canadian and Russian diamonds as well as champagne diamonds, colored diamonds, and colorless diamonds, garnets (grape garnets, pyropes, rhodalites, and tsavorites), opals, quartz (including amethysts and citrines), spinels, topaz, tourmalines (including paraibas and rubellites), zircon and an extensive collection of lesser-known stones.

Abracadabra is a proud member of the Michigan Retail Jewelers Association, as well as the Jewelers of America.

Celtic Inspiration
In the late 1980's, Abracadabra Jewelry/ Gem Gallery began a new series of Celtic wedding bands that has since become its most popular line, which is based on designs from The Book of Kells. The wholesale line is available to select jewelers across the United States.  Contact us if you are interested in carrying any of our lines.

Abracadabra Jewelry/ Gem Gallery recently celebrated its 35th year of business in Ann Arbor. Steven and his staff are working to ensure that the next 30 years are as magical as the first!
